It can be a make or break thing, your reputation online. It can mean the difference between gaining clients or not gaining clients.
Having credibility online can make a huge difference to your business – just a few things you can attract with a strong online presence are things like :
- Engagement from your followers which can result in better relationships with your prospects and therefore more paying clients
- Free PR or Media opportunities
- Increased Joint Venture opportunities
So how do you get trust and credibility online? Well, today I’ve got three steps you can take to set you on that exact path!
Create a consistent brand
You need to have everything matching up with your online presence, and that means everything – from you Facebook cover photo to your Twitter background, your other social media sites, your main website or blog and so on… If it’s not possible to have exactly the same logo, image or design on all of these, they all need to have the same look and feel at the very least so for example, the same colour choices etc…
If you have a small budget, you can pay someone on sites like www.fiverr.com or www.odesk.com to create a design for you that can be consistent across all of your social media and websites. If you cannot afford to pay someone to design the different backgrounds, just do them yourself. That’s where your creativity comes in with using free tools such as www.picmonkey.com which I mentioned in my blog post entitled Tools and Resources for your Online Business.
Not only does your look and feel need to be consistent but even things such as your language, communication techniques for example, the way you talk to people is important to remain consistent. There is no point being yourself on your Facebook page by using humour or whatever your style may be and then having a corporate style newsletter that has no personal touch to it and doesn’t match at all what you are doing on social media.
Engage with your followers
This would definitely be the second most important thing to building trust and credibility online. You’ve got to engage with your tribe and there are many ways to do this. Provide Value! Always under promise and over deliver
It is so important in this day and age, with the abundance of information available for free on the Internet that you keep up with the pace and make sure that you are providing a ton of value to your followers – after all, that is why they are following you. People hope to benefit in some way or another otherwise they wouldn’t be wasting their time. If it’s by Entertaining them in some way either by making them laugh, making them feel great, or providing some sort of drama. It could be by Educating them by sharing your unique knowledge or experience, or it could be by Inspiring them. Those are the three most common ways you can provide value to your followers.
So to sum up, three steps I would recommend as being the priority if you are looking to build trust and credibility online are to create a consistent image across all of your different websites and social media, engage with your followers and provide value by either entertaining, educating or inspiring your people.
