I was extremely excited the other day, when my Mum brought my attention to a book she was reading entitled:
“The Wish – How To Make Your Dreams Come True” by Angela Donovan
In it there’s a chapter titled “The power of three” and the excerpts that my Mum shared with me absolutely made perfect sense! It was an extremely powerful moment reading her text so I decided to share just a few snippets of it with you in the hope that it has some relevance and power for you too.
“There is great power in threes. I’m sure you will have noticed how it’s nearly always three wishes that the genie grants in fairy tales, while bad luck supposedly comes along in threes as well…”
“There is also the mystical number that shows up repeatedly in the great myths of the world – the Three Fates…the Three Muses…the Three Graces…the Three Gorgons…the Three Wise Men… Three is a prime component of folk tales, too – three little pigs, three blind mice and three bears – while the oak, ash and thorn were known as the ‘fairy triad’ of trees so wherever they grew together was where the fairies lived.”
Angela goes on to say:
“Start delving deeper into threes and you begin to see just how special a number it is on many levels. Three denotes divine perfection. Three describes the eternity of Time itself through ‘past’, ‘present’ and ‘future’; while ‘body’, ‘mind’ and ‘spirit’ encompasses Life; and ‘science’, ‘art’ and ‘religion’ covers pretty much everything else… There are three primary colours, and with three we achieve geometry as well: two straight lines can never enclose a space or form a figure, nor can two flat surfaces form mass; three lines are required for the most basic plan and three dimensions – length, breadth and height – to form mass.”
My Powerful groups of Three
If you know me personally, you will know that I have a couple of VERY strong “Three’s” in my life.
- My Mum, my sister and I
- My husband, my daughter and I
(No offence Dad)
My sister is my only sibling whilst my daughter is my only child. It’s hard to explain the significance of the bond that is existent in each of these groups of three, but I guarantee that if you have a similar “Three” in your life you will know exactly what Angela Donovan means and will be able to relate to it as I do.
With regards to my personal trios, each of these groups have a certain “invisible” bond that joins the three parts together. Each of the parts is in and of itself, a whole. However each of the whole personalities also forms a part of the larger group of three. One part cannot be affected without inherently affecting the others and with the case of my mother and sister, this can result in one of us being sick and the other(s) of us being able to feel their exact pain. At the other end of the scale, it can mean that if one of us has got something totally awesome happening in our lives, it’s very easy for the other(s) of us to tap into this state of excitement!
Two of the parts will not work effectively in isolation and in the scenario of my Mum and my Sis, our connection is of such an enduring quality that life continues to work perfectly even with a distance between us of two and a half thousand kilometres.
Where is your Power of Three?
If there is a ‘Power of Three’ existent in your life, you might like to think about what Angela’s words mean to you and your personal trio. How does her interpretation influence your perception of your personal “Three”?
If you don’t seem to have a powerful “Three”, think about how you might be able to include an extra person in the interactions of a strong “pair” of which you are a part. Examples could be as follows:
- 2 salesmen meeting with a client might make for a better dialogue than a one on one conversation between the sole salesman and the prospect
- A couple reaching out to a friend / counsellor or coach to help push through some relationship problems
- Getting a third opinion on a decision you are going to make
- A third quote on a purchase you are about to make
Something as simple as this could be the key to breaking through a current barrier that seems to be standing in your way.
