What does your perfect day look like?
Reading today’s helpful information for the Suitcase Entrepreneur’s 30 Day Blog Challenge, I got quite a few tips about creating a vision for where you want to go with your dream lifestyle and business. The exercise for today was to write down in detail, what your perfect day looks like.
You may want to take a moment to think about this for yourself and get out a pen and piece of paper or your laptop to write out the following :
- How would you spend your day?
- With whom would you spend it?
- Where would you be?
- Would you be working, playing or both?
- What does that smell, look and feel like?
And in terms of your business, think about what type of work you would be doing, who your customers are and how much time you’d spend on your business…
So what were my answers?
Well once again, I’ve got a slight deviation from the standard answer in that it’s more about my perfect week or month as opposed to my perfect day. At present, I have my life so fine tuned that I am truly grateful to be enjoying more ‘perfect days’ as standard than I am experiencing ‘not perfect days’.
I will take a moment though to paint a picture for you of how my perfect days are currently playing out :
I wake up eager and excited to make more progress on my current work projects, thinking about what I will say and how I will reach out to my followers on Facebook and through email. I also think about what my priorities are for the day. I spend time getting my daughter ready for school, making lunch, eating breakfast, and we leave home normally at around 8am. We take a 5min walk to the train station, 90% of the time in the sun with a beautiful crisp morning breeze & we chat together about what’s going on at school, what activities she is looking forward to this week and I take the time to shower her with love before I see her off to school.
I feel alive and grateful that I am not trekking to the office alongside the hundreds of others that are also on my train. On the way back from school, I walk “against the grain” being one of the only ones walking home whilst everyone else is on a mission to get to work and I LOVE it! I am unlocking the door to my apartment complex whilst others are rushing out in a hurry to get some place. Most people I pass don’t have the time to make eye contact, to smile or to say good morning but that’s ok by me, I understand.
I make my way to up to the apartment to potter around a bit, fix up the house, let the sun shine in through the balcony into my lounge and to make a steaming hot cup of Earl Grey tea (my favourite). I put on a daily motivational podcast and sip tea in the sun whilst eating a croissant, a piece of raisin toast, some cookies or other nice snack in preparation for my day. I’m feeling motivated! Once I’ve cleaned, I feel a renewed energy in my home so take the opportunity to sit down, refreshed at my desk and get stuck into work for the day.
I spend the day working on projects, I am organised and well planned. I stick to a schedule that enables me to make the most of my time so that I can achieve all of my business goals without feeling drained. Depending on what day of the week it is, my day might consist of a mixture of the following:
- attending a conference call, webinar or tele-seminar
- scheduling my social media posts for the day
- working on product creation
- talking to or hanging out with other like-minded people who are either working with me on projects or building businesses
- completing an online course and implementing the learnings
At lunch time I play my “laxing out” playlist and take a 10min walk in the beautiful sunshine down to the end of the peninsula where I meet my husband for lunch. I nearly always take that opportunity to snap a picture of the stunning environment and post it up on Instagram. We sit in the sun for half an hour, eating, chatting and enjoying each others company and then we head back to make some progress for the afternoon.
If it’s a full on day or week, I will continue on with work, if I don’t have deadlines looming, I will either :
- head down to the gym to go for a jog on the treadmill, do some yoga or take a dip in the pool
- spend a couple of hours planning events, holidays and parties with my friends and family (there is ALWAYS something).
And then it’s time to head back to get my little girl. My daughter enjoys the privileges of attending a Performing Arts College and hence her day is an extended one and packed with a variety of activities , academic, physical and creative in nature so once home, we chill out.We may cook, we may not. A lot of the time we choose to eat out. We regularly give thanks for the convenience of the facilities that surround us as we have such easy access to great food. We always take the chance to snap photos these moments because we are so grateful for the experiences we enjoy together. Some nights my husband and I take the opportunity to pour a glass of wine or crack open a bottle of beer and enjoy an hour or so of watching sport and/or movies. I am happy and relaxed.
I routinely end my night with at least 2-3 hours of intensive work on the computer, usually blogging and will curl up in bed with the latest personal development book I am reading on Kindle.
Ready for another day!
So this is the day I regularly enjoy – at present I only work in a job two days per week so all other days run somewhat similar to this. My goal is to maintain this style of life whilst slowly over time building on my online income streams in order for my husband to finish working in his full time job.
With regards to mapping out my perfect week or month, I’d like to start to incorporate a trip away from home on the weekend at least once a month and a trip overseas at least every 6 months.
So, it’s your turn! Write yours up and see what fun you have!
Feel free to post your story in the comments below, I’d love to hear about it 🙂
