Today I watched a Ted Talk by a lady called Tania Luna of Ukraine. It was extremely touching and helped me to put things into perspective on this fine, warm Spring day here in Sydney.
As I sit here at my computer surrounded by so many things in my home that bring me joy, I reflect on where I have come from and decided I really couldn’t move on today without sharing this with you.
So here is the video, take a moment out of your day (it’s about five minutes in length) to sit down, listen and watch the short story unfold. I hope you are inspired as much as I was.
I love the final line of this speech where Tania says that she and her husband forgot their middle class frustrations and felt like millionaires and I decided to do that too.
Three Tips to help you feel like a millionaire
- Have gratitude
Show some appreciation, for yourself and everything you’ve achieved either just today or over the last week, maybe even the last few months, if you’ve achieved some long term goals, look back further and remind yourself of where you were a year or two ago and give yourself a pat on the back.
Show some appreciation for those around you and look for the value that they have given to you in some way or another.
- Slow down to smell the roses
Take a moment to stop and just slow down, stop rushing, stop trying to get something done or get yourself to some place and just block out a period of time where you can just sit and relax! You deserve it!
- Put yourself in someone else’s shoes
I guarantee, if you think hard for a moment or two, that you will be able to think of at least one person that is less fortunate than yourself. Take a minute to think about that person (or people), empathise with them and their situation in your mind and try to get a feel for what it must be like to be in their shoes even just for a short while.
This should surely help you to realise how truly lucky you are!
Why don’t you try it for a minute, maybe an hour or even an entire day… see how you go. I hope you find it a rewarding exercise, I’d love to hear how you go – one way you can slow down and appreciate would be to take 2 minutes to leave a comment at the bottom of this post to show your appreciation of this post. I’d truly love to hear from you 🙂
Until next time
