The New Science of Epigenetics
Today’s Aware Show interviewee was Dr Bruce Lipton who is an internationally recognized leader in bridging science and spirit. He has been a guest speaker on hundreds of TV and radio shows, as well as keynote presenter for national and international conferences.
Dr Lipton began his career as a Cellular Biologist and his topic of conversation today was ‘Epigenetics’ which he described as a revolution (an evolutionary process).
It is a concept in opposition to ‘Genetic control’. When we talk about Genetic control, we talk about being pre-programmed at the moment of conception when our parents genes are combined. This says that our fate is predetermined by our genes. This creates a concept of victimisation ie. cancer runs in my family – my fate is not in my control. This leads to irresponsibility as people just believe there is no other option and so people look to the medical profession as the ‘rescuer’.
The New Science
Epigenetics is talking about control ‘above’ the genes. Genes don’t control our lives. There is a control above the genes that can regulate genetic activity. Our responses to our environment influences our genes. If I change the way I see the world, I can change my genes – every gene in our body can be modified by the way we see and respond to the world.
The concept of Epigenetics changes us from victim to master!
We can control our fate and life! We need to learn mastery… There is a responsibility that we need to take for our lives.
How do you change your perception of the world?
According to Dr Lipton, the crux of the problem is in our subconscious mind. Up until a certain point in evolution, our subconscious controlled our lives (ie.our habitual patterns) and the conscious mind was only built thereafter.
- Animals etc… can be programmed (like the way we could before evolution). When we added consciousness, we started to change our beliefs continuously. Until we were able to do this with our conscious mind, we had automatically programmable reactions to certain things in the world.
- Now, our two minds work together however, 95% of our life is programmed by the subconscious while only 5% of our life is programmable by our conscious mind.
The invisible things acting against us are our subconscious thoughts!
- What controlled the fate of the cells?
You can absolutely change the perception of that stress to stop that chemical cascade from happening!
