The Very Best Way to Set your Outcome!!
Drawn straight from the manual for the Beyond NLP Certification Training by Christopher Howard, this is the strategy that is suggested for setting an outcome that you would like achieved. It is set out using an acronym. The word C.R.E.A.T.E spells out the necessary components as follows :
C – Concise and Clear
R – Realistic
E – Ecological
A – As if Now
T – Timed and Toward the Positive
E – End Step / Evidence Procedure
I’ll briefly explain each of these for you in this post so you can go ahead and start setting your own outcomes looking forward to 2013.
CONCISE AND CLEAR
Make your goal simple and easy to understand. This one is pretty much self explanatory, as long as you understand it, that’s the main thing!
This is a tricky one because it begs the question “What is realistic?”. In this case, I would suggest that you ask yourself the question “Have I usually gotten what I wanted in my life?”
If you say yes to this then realistic for you might be a slightly enlarged goal. Something just a bit bigger than what you might easily expect to achieve.
If you say no to this question, then you might want to scale your goal back a touch, so that it suits you a bit better. For example if you never seem to be able to manifest what you want and you set a goal to purchase a new home by the 1st Jan 2013 and you are barely affording to keep above water with your finances at present, scaling back to something equally as awesome such as saving a certain amount towards a deposit would be more in line with what point number two is trying to tell us here.
It is important to confirm that your goal is safe to you, safe to others and safe to the planet
AS IF NOW
When we word our goal using this method, we want to set the language in the present tense as if the thing that we want to achieve is already a reality. For example, I am in possession of the job I seek or I am living a balanced and holistic life or I am fit, active and healthy.
TIMED AND TOWARD THE POSITIVE
There needs to be a specific date set that the task will be completed by. Refrain from saying “Next year, I will be living in my brand new home in Sydney” as your unconscious brain will take the term “Next year” and continue to push your goal out to “Next year”.
When you make it to 2013 and continue reading your goal in this format, your unconscious brain still thinks this outcome has been set for “Next year” which would now in fact be 2014!
Also, the goal needs to be set in the positive ie. If we state what we DO NOT want to achieve, you unconscious brain does not process the NOT part of this sentence and will send us on the path to achieving exactly what it is that we DO NOT want to achieve. Instead of saying “It is 1st January 2013 and I am not smoking cigarettes any more”, say “It is 1st January and I am now smoke free”
END STEP / EVIDENCE PROCEDURE
How will you know when you finally have that goal? How will you know that you’ve actually achieved it? What is the final thing that has to happen before you know you’ve achieved it?
This will be different for everyone so this is one of the biggest strategies for getting your unconscious mind on board with you on your effort to achieve your goal. There will be something you can picture in your mind when you know you’re there. For example, if your goal was to go on holiday to Los Angeles, you might be sure that you’ve achieved this when you are sitting in front of your computer and are looking at the receipt as you have just purchased the plane tickets or it could be that you are at the airport checking in, or for some, they may not believe it has been achieved until they are actually sitting in a deck chair next to the pool in their 5 star hotel.
Whatever it is, this needs to be factored in to the wording of your goal.
So to finish, the format to use for this ‘Create you Outcome’ system is as follows :
It is ………………(future date)……………….. and I am ………………………………(end step)………………
It is 1st January 2013 and I am sitting at Cyrus bar and grill, Darling Harbour with my family in the sun. We are enjoying the food, drink and the festive season together.
It is 4th April 2013 and I am lying in a deck chair with a glass of wine and my laptop on board a Cruise from Sydney around the Pacific.
It is 7th July 2013 and I am looking at the balance of my Internet Marketing merchant account which says $……………
