Today as a part of the Powerful Performance 30 programme with Krisztina Farkas, I was reminded about the value of Clearing the Clutter. In the video, Krisztina reminded us that our brain is designed to be able to process a lot of information.
According to Dr. Joseph Dispenza, author of Evolve your Brain and Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, “The brain processes 400 Billion bits of information a second. BUT, we are ONLY aware of 2,000 of those.”
Can you believe that?
That is an awfully huge amount of information. Whether we are aware of it or not, our brain ‘sees’ everything around us. It analyses features, details and whether anything we see poses any danger to our survival.
From there, the brain does various things with these bits of information in order to create the image in our minds of what is there in reality. Read my previous post – First Step to Mental and Emotional Mastery (3 Things to Watch) for more information on these neurological processes. The point of the matter is that the more ‘stuff’ we have around us, the harder our brain has to work.
Creating Physical Space to Free up Mental Energy
So taking all of that into consideration, don’t you think it would be a good idea to give our brains a bit of a break? I certainly do!
Have you ever noticed how when you stay in a clutter free hotel room, you feel so much more relaxed, energised and focussed on whatever it is that you’re there for? You don’t have the notices on the noticeboard, the piles of paperwork all over your desk, the bags of stuff lined up along the floor, the mountains of clothes all over the house, the dishes to be washed and so on and so forth.
I just recently had a hotel stay and got a huge amount of work done just with the laptop there and the clean, clear spaces for me to work in. It was a great environment and so I decided to clear some of the clutter in my office at home too!
Clean up and Clear the Clutter
I’m generally a very clean person and don’t live with much clutter anyway but it is funny how much of any on-going job it can be to stay clutter free so while I make it a twice weekly task to do my regular housework, its also important to take some time once every few months to do an extra clean out.
Hopefully you see the value in clearing some space for yourself in your physical environment in order to allow some mental and energetic space in your life too! Take some time to clean up and clear the clutter for yourself and see what difference it makes!
As usual, I’d love to see how you went with this. Please leave me a comment with your thoughts or any questions or comments you have on this topic, I’d love to hear from you.
Until next time x
